FAQs

Is mustard pillow good for babies?

Yes, mustard pillows are good for babies as they help support natural head shape development. The even distribution of mustard seeds adjusts gently to a baby's head movements, reducing the chances of flat head syndrome. These pillows are breathable, soft, and provide the right amount of support for a newborn’s delicate head.

At what age can you use a mustard seed pillow?

A mustard seed pillow can be used from birth up to 12 months of age. It's especially helpful in the early months when a baby’s skull is still soft and shaping. Always ensure the pillow is flat, firm, and placed safely under supervision during naps or daytime rest.

What type of pillow is best for a newborn?

The best pillow for a newborn is one that is flat, breathable, and filled with natural materials like mustard seeds. Such pillows provide gentle support to the baby’s soft head and help maintain a rounded shape. Avoid fluffy or synthetic pillows, as they can pose a suffocation risk.

How to prevent a baby's flat head?

To prevent a flat head, give your baby enough tummy time when awake, change head positions while sleeping, and use a flat, natural pillow like one filled with mustard seeds. This helps distribute pressure evenly and supports a healthy skull shape during those early months of development.

What is the proper way to clean mustard pillows?

To clean a mustard pillow, remove the seed filling and wash only the outer cover with a mild detergent. Do not wash the mustard seeds, as they can lose their firmness. Once the cover is dry, refill the pillow. Make sure the pillow stays dry to prevent any moisture buildup

Do mustard pillows get flat over time?

Yes, with regular use, the mustard seeds may settle and flatten slightly. This is normal and can be adjusted by lightly fluffing the pillow or redistributing the seeds. If needed, the cover can be refilled with fresh, clean mustard seeds to restore its shape and support.

Can I use a mustard pillow during tummy time?

No, mustard pillows are not recommended during tummy time. Tummy time should always be done on a flat surface without pillows, so babies can move their head and neck freely. The pillow is meant for back support during supervised lying down only, not while the baby is on their stomach.

Can a mustard pillow be used while travelling?

Yes, a mustard pillow is compact and easy to carry, making it suitable for short naps while travelling. It can be placed in a crib, stroller, or car seat during rest time, but always under close supervision. Make sure your baby is in a safe position when using it outside.

Is it safe to use a mustard pillow during sleep?

Yes, but only under supervision. During short naps when the baby is lying on their back and watching, a mustard pillow can be used safely. Avoid using it during unsupervised or overnight sleep, and always place the baby on a firm, flat surface to prevent any risks.

Can a mustard pillow help with colic or reflux?

Mustard pillows are not made for treating colic or reflux. However, the mild warmth and gentle support may provide slight comfort. For these conditions, it’s best to follow your pediatrician’s advice, as sleeping position and feeding methods have a more direct impact than pillow use.
