Water droplets reach the conductive rain-sensor plate and activate an audible warning.

Rainwater Harvesting Model

The same water is collected from the roof area, channelled through a transparent pipe and directed into the model storage tank.

The model combines sensor electronics with a visible water-management system, helping students understand both how rainfall can be detected and how rooftop runoff can be collected instead of being allowed to flow away.

The water-sensor plate contains exposed parallel conductive tracks. Under dry conditions, the electrical path between the tracks remains open and the buzzer stays silent.

When water droplets bridge the tracks, the electrical condition changes and the connected active buzzer produces an audible rain-alert response.

Collection, Gravity Flow and Storage

Water applied to the roof and collection area is guided into the fitted collector tray. It then travels through the transparent hose pipe and enters the model storage tank.

Place the model on a flat, stable and completely dry surface.

Check that:

  • The rain-sensor plate is dry
  • The transparent pipe is clear
  • The collector tray is correctly positioned
  • The storage tank is empty

  • The battery is not yet connected

2. Connect the Power

Carefully attach a fresh 9V battery to the supplied snap connector using the correct terminal orientation.

Under dry conditions, the buzzer should remain silent.

3. Apply the Water

Use the supplied dropper to collect a small, controlled quantity of clean water.

Apply the water carefully to the exposed sensor and roof-collection area.

4. Detect the Rain

The water reaches the exposed conductive tracks of the sensor.

As the droplets bridge the tracks, the electrical path changes from an open condition to a conducting condition.

5. Sound the Alert

The connected active buzzer receives the trigger and produces an audible warning.

This represents the electronic rain-alarm function.

6. Collect the Water

The applied water moves from the roof profile into the fitted collector tray.
